Jobbeschreibung Research Area:
Since new antibiotics are urgently needed to combat life-threatening infectious diseases, novel approaches for their identification are necessary. We are interested in identifying biosynthetic and resistance genes in ancient DNA and metagenomes to access otherwise hidden antibiotics or other bioactive natural products and to study their evolution. Our approach is highly interdisciplinary (bioinformatics, molecular biology, archeology, chemistry, evolutionary biology, etc.) and collaborative (our main collaborators are biomolecular archeologists at Harvard University and the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Human History). We would like to welcome a bioinformatician in our department, who wants to explore this novel source of antibiotics.
Qualifikationen Requirements:
- A PhD degree (or equivalent) in bioinformatics, biology, chemistry, or life sciences (e.g. chemical biology, biomedical sciences, biochemistry, microbiology, etc.). Candidates about to obtain their degree are welcome to apply.
- A strong background in bioinformatics with particular experience using and implementing softwares in linux environments, command line tools (to manage and design workflows), reproducible data analysis skills using R software, (meta)genome assembly.
- Very good communication skills in English are required due to an international research team.
